Post Wax Care: 6 Things To Avoid Doing After Waxing

If you’ve ever wondered what not to do after waxing, you’re not alone. We get this question asked a lot by our clients. Preparing for your wax may seem obvious, but why does after wax care matter? And how should you go about it?

Well, waxing is an art our Fuzzologists are passionate about. It’s an ongoing process that requires due diligence on both sides to achieve the best result. After wax care is an essential step in the pursuit of smooth skin.

Today, we’re going to share what not to do after waxing, what products to apply post-wax, and how to get the most out of your wax every time, but first let’s dive into some frequently asked questions.

What Happens If You Skip Your Post Wax Routine?

Skipping post-wax care can greatly affect your long-term results. So when does post-wax care begin and end? Typically, you can expect your skin to be sensitive for the 48 hours following your appointment. This is the most important window of time to show your skin some love.

Are Bumps, Pimples, And Pimples Common After Waxing?

If you’ve never gotten waxed before, you might be wondering what to expect in the days afterwards. Because waxing forcefully removes hair from the follicles, you may experience redness or mild bumps. Luckily, this is only temporary. The best way to treat these side effects is by routinely hydrating your skin and exfoliating no sooner than 48 hours post-wax. Your skin will thank you later.

Is It Normal To Bleed After Getting Waxed?

Bleeding after waxing is totally normal. Some first-time waxers may experience blood droplets where the hair got pulled. This is because your hair naturally resists being pulled the first time around. You may also experience bleeding in tight-pore areas after a Brazilian (Zillianᵀᴹ) or underarm wax.

Post-wax blood can be prevented by exfoliating before your wax. This loosens the hair follicles so your hair is easily removable. We recommend doing so to have a more enjoyable experience. We’ve also prepared a cheat sheet of how to prepare for a wax so you can get the most out of your Fuzz visits.

6 Things To Avoid Doing After Waxing

Now that you have all the details on what to expect after waxing, we’re going to discuss what not to do post-wax. Do what makes you feel best, and remember:

Avoid The Sauna And Hot Tub

Get your wax at the end of spa day. Because for the next 48 hours, you’re cut off from anything steamy. No saunas, no steam rooms or no hot tubs. Steam enlarges your pores while cold can shrink them. Steam can also push your hair out, causing premature stubble.

Another reason to avoid steam is the bacteria gathered in public or shared places. Bacteria love warm, wet skin. Which leads us to…

Don’t Go Swimming Or Takes Baths

Skip the beach days and baths. In the first 48 hours, your skin will be extra sensitive to salt water, causing bumps galore. Chlorine can also be harsh on freshly waxed skin. And as we mentioned, bacteria thrives in these locations, making your skin vulnerable.

This is all easily avoidable for the first few days. We also recommend avoiding heavy fragrances in perfume or lotion. If you’re wondering what to apply after waxing, try a gentle cleanser and lotion, like these ones from I Love My Muff. Gentle products are especially important for down-there after care

Skip The Gym, Yoga, Or Other Intense Workouts

If you’re dedicated to a workout routine, we commend you. Unfortunately, you’ll have to save the sweaty sesh for another day. Avoid intense workouts for 24 hours after waxing. Aerobic activities can also cause friction from clothing on the skin. That’s why we recommend taking a rest day. If you still choose to workout, keep it light.

It's Best To Avoid Intimate Activities For 48 Hours

When we said you’re cut off from anything steamy, we really meant all of it. You’ll want to skip any sexual activities for the next 48 hours. Like most aerobic activities, sex can cause skin irritation from friction and sweat.

Don’t Wear Tight Clothes

Choose loose fitting clothes to wear to and from Fuzz. Tight fabrics can irritate your skin, wax or not, so it’s important to wear comfortable clothing. Choose cotton over synthetics like spandex and polyester. Cotton is not only super soft. It allows the skin to breathe unlike synthetic and tight-fitting fabrics.

Stay Indoors For 48 Hours After Your Waxing Session

If you’ve been to Fuzz Wax Bar before, you already know the drill. Wait 48 hours before exposing your freshly waxed skin to sunlight. We know you might be eager to show off your smooth results, but your skin will be super sensitive. That’s because waxing removes the outer protective layer of skin, just like an exfoliator does.

That’s why we always recommend protecting your skin with sunscreen. If you love to tan, check out this post for more information on how to protect your skin.

Be Extra Mindful Not To Over Exfoliate

Exfoliating is one of the best things you can do for your skin, but don’t go overboard. Like with anything, moderation is key. Set yourself up for success by exfoliating before and after your wax. This will remove dead skin and debris to make your hair removal easier. It will also prevent ingrown hairs.

We recommend exfoliating no sooner than two to three days post-wax. By then, you can resume your regular skincare routine
